About Me
Where are you from?
I am originally from Middlesboro, Kentucky. I have lived other places, but I call Corbin home now.
What is your teaching experience?
I taught high school English for five years and have been a public librarian too. This is my fifth year as a Media Specialist at CMS. I have worked in media centers for grades K-12 during my graduate studies. Additionally, I have worked with teaching English as a second language
Where did you go to school?
University of Tennessee (Master's in Information Science)
Lincoln Memorial University (Bachelor's in English & Education)
What are some of your favorite books?
I have read hundreds and there are too many to count! Some of my favorites for young adults:
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Anything by John Green (Looking for Alaska, The Fault in Our Stars, etc)
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
How They Croaked by Georgia Bragg
Lots more! Feel free to ask for recommendations or fill out a reader's advisory sheet for hand picked recommendations.
What do you do for fun?
I love traveling, reading, hiking, swimming- lots of things. I really love the outdoors. You can call me a tree hugger if you want.
What is your vision for the library media center?
I want the media center to be a place where students can find a great book and use a variety of tools to access and share information. My big push is with technology. Our students have to be experts in tech tools to be ready for the next step. Teaching students how to find the information they need and how to use it is probably the most important skill that we can give them. I'm excited to have the opportunity to work on plans for the new Corbin Middle School scheduled to open in 2018. The media center will play an integral part in the school as a whole. It's exciting!
What do you like best about Corbin Middle School?
There are so many things. What I noticed instantly is that CMS feels like home. Our staff and students are like one big family. I have no doubt that we have the best students and the best faculty- period. It's an awesome place to work.
